Government’s Tsunami reconstruction leader - Reconstruction and Development Agency [RADA] has taken steps to support tsunami affected community to improve their small and medium scale businesses and introduce their products to up market.
According to a spokesman, the RADA and some other government and non-government agencies have entered into this effort and organize handicraft exhibitions to display products of tsunami victims to international and local community.
Beyond the tsunami an exhibition of the tsunami victims has already displayed at the Bandaranayaka International Airport at Katunayaka and received high responses from the up market.
The RDA spokesman said the exhibition received support from the Ministry of Housing and Construction with the cooperation of RADA & Airport Aviation Services (SL) Limited and financially supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The RADA plans to conduct similar type exhibitions in Colombo and the suburbs to help the tsunami victims.
He said Artisans who were affected by the tsunami from 6 districts (Batticaloa, Ampara, Trincomalee, Matara,Kalutara and Galle ) exhibited their products such as Lace, Coconut Coils, Reeds, Cross stitch, Coconut Brackets, Palmyrah Bags, Batik, Jute Bags and Reed Bags and many tourists had visited and some products got main attractions from international community.
